The last letter from Bonaire to the home front. Pierre Schunck and his three youngest children then left for Curaçao, but not, as might be expected, for his sister Carla. They spent Christmas in the Zeemanshuis (Catholic sailor’s home), complete with Christmas tree and Night Mass and everything that goes with it, because apparently the crew of the Oranjestad had time off. That Zeemanshuis was at St. Anna Bay, at least on the water front. Because the ships sailed in and out in front of the window of their room (captain’s room). Especially when it was dark, that was a beautiful sight with all those lights.
