De Venlose LO-leider „Ambrosius“ was snel overtuigd van de manier, waarop in het gebied tussen Maas en Peel, vooral in Sevenum, de onderduikershulp was georganiseerd. Het hier volgende is een korte samenvatting uit Het verborgen front door Fred Cammaert 1994
Hoofdstuk VIb, VIII.2.5. Rayon Sevenum.

Een hoofdkwartier ontstond op de hoeve „Rust Roest“ van de familie Groot in Sevenum. Talrijke onderduikers, onder wie ruim honderd joden, vonden alleen al in Sevenum onderdak. Volgens de gemanipuleerde oogstcijfers leed Sevenum officieel voortdurend aan misoogsten. In werkelijkheid werden scheepsladingen vol graan over het hele land verdeeld, voor onderduikers en anderen, die dat nodig hadden. De Sicherheitspolizei in Maastricht kreeg er maar geen vat op en noemde Horst en Sevenum „broeinesten van verzet“. Bij razzia’s kwam nooit iets aan het licht. Een O.D.-er had via Sevenum een clandestiene telefoonverbinding tot stand gebracht tussen Venlo en Den Bosch, waarvan ook de L.O. gebruik kon maken. In Sevenum stond een driepoot waaraan een stuk rail hing. Als daartegen werd geslagen ontstond een goed hoorbaar, hoog snerpend geluid. Zo wist men altijd tijdig, wanneer er een overvalcommando aankwam.

De grote razzia’s
De eerste grote razzia hield de SiPo op 5 april 1944, als gevolg van de activiteiten van de NSB-er W. Engels. Hoewel zijn regelmatige brieven aan Duitse instanties telkens op het postkantoor werden onderschept, wist hij uiteindelijk zijn bevindingen toch door te geven.
Tegen het eind van de oorlog kregen de razzia’s een ander karakter. Het ging steeds meer vooral om slavenjacht voor de Duitse industrie. Tegelijk wilde de Duitse legerleiding bij de opmars van de geallieerden niet in de rug aangevallen worden vanuit de bevolking. Dus moesten alle weerbare mannen weg naar Duitsland, net als later (tijdens de Kerstdagen 1944) in Roermond. Het middel dat zij daarvoor bedachten, was voor die vrome streek zeer geschikt: de kerkrazzia. Op zondag 8 oktober 1944 vonden dergelijke kerkrazzia’s plaats in heel Noord-Limburg, dat toen nog niet bevrijd was, en in delen van Noord-Brabant. Zuid-Limburg was toen al vrij. 2.805 mannen tussen de 16 en 65 jaar werden opgepakt. De meeste werden ingezet in de Hermann Göring-Werke. De meesten van hen hebben de oorlog overleefd. Dit was niet het geval bij 121 van de gearresteerden. Een groot deel van de overige gedeporteerden keerde pas in mei 1945 naar huis terug. (Bron: Dwangarbeid in Duitsland)
De razzia’s hadden een grote uitwerking op de hele bevolking en bevorderden daardoor de saamhorigheid. In Het grote gebod, LO-LIMBURG (door Drs L.E.M.A. van Hommerich) lezen we op p. 324: „Toen in de buurt van Vierlingsbeek de Duitsers aan een zijde van de Maas eens een razzia hielden, kwam ieder, die over een vaar­tuig beschikte, er mee op de Maas om de vervolgden naar de overkant te vervoeren. In Maasbree werd de bevolking gewaarschuwd voor gevaar van de zijde van de vijand door de stand van de wieken van de molen.“
