Wilhelmus van Soest (Willem)

 11-05-1883 ’s-Gravendeel      23-02-1945 Bergen-Belsen (61)
- Venlo -

 …

According to Erelijst [1], Willem van Soest was a member of the resistance. We have not yet found any further information about him, except that he was arrested at home, 36 Venlo/Stalbergweg, on August 23, 1944. [2]
There his son Jan was also arrested. Presumably one of the reasons was because Jan had stayed away from forced labor in Germany.
Since we do not (yet?) know more about Willem’s resistance, he is assigned here to the unorganized resistance.
He was was a receiver of direct taxes. Bergen-Belsen: file 407/1945. Source: Dodenboek Venlo (Book of the Dead) [3]
Wilhelmus ( Willem ) van Soest is listed in the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [1]
