    The following text is taken from the book Valkenburg 80 jaar bevrijd (Valkenburg 80 Years Liberated). [1.1]

    Leonard F. Johnson was born on March 15, 1919. He came from Colbert County, Alabama. [2]
    He enlisted for military service on December 30, 1940 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was unmarried. Before enlisting, he had attended 2 years of high school and worked as a farmer.
    Leonard died on September 16, 1944 near Valkenburg.
    He was a squad leader and 25 years old.
    His remains were returned to his home country where he was laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield, Colbert County, Alabama.
