The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Ysselsteyn TL-9-10
Kurt Schmidt was provisionally buried in a fieldgrave near the Redemptorist monastery. From the location of this field grave and the date of his death [1], it appears that he was killed on the day the Americans entered the Geul valley from the south. For at that place the narrow pass Sibbergrubbe joins the Neerhem road. See map. [2.1]
Kurt Schmidt’s field grave was located 50 meters diagonally behind the Redemptorist Monastery on the road to Valkenburg on land leased by Van Rooyen. [2.2]
After the war, the Redemptorist monastery was converted into the Parkhotel Rooding by hotelier Johan Rooding. In 2008 it was sold and after a few years it was renamed Parkhotel Valkenburg. [3]
