Cammaert writes summarily about him:
Officer of the SiPo-Maastricht. Gained a bad reputation for his relentless pursuit of fugitives and especially people in hiding. Many people were taken into custody as a result of his actions. However, he was not of the caliber of Nitsch, Klonen, Conrad, Schut or Strobel. [1]
After the war, a special judicial institution called Bijzondere Rechtspleging (Special Justice) was set up. Among other things, it was to deal with the war crimes that took place in connection with the German occupation of the Netherlands in the years 1940-1945. A collection of data on these files can be found on expostfacto.nl [2]
Under “Dutch criminal proceedings against Germans and Austrians for Nazi crimes committed during the Second World War 1945 - 1952” [3] we also find Wilhelm Schneider. He was sentenced to one year in prison and then banned from the Netherlands for life. [4]
