Theo J. Bots

 28-02-1905 Leiden      05-05-1944 Roermond (39)
- Police - Aid to People in Hiding L.O. - Roermond -

Theo Bots was a chief inspector of police in Roermond. [1]
In addition to the cooperation of the L.O. side and the associated aid apparatus for refugees, the contribution of some Roermond police officers was important, including Th.J. Bots. They followed in the footsteps of Bouman and his people and, in cooperation with the L.O. district leadership, established new links, e.g. to pilot helpers in Eindhoven…
On the basis of the confessions of one or more member of the group Bongaerts, Bots, Heiligers, and Munten were arrested on Tuesday, February 29, 1944, by Sipo officers Nitsch and W. Meyer.
     [2]
The police chief of Roermond wrote on April 21, 1961, after a conversation with the widow, that he was arrested by the Germans on February 29, 1944, and taken to the penal prison in Maastricht.
On April 1, her husband was brought home. Meanwhile, he was paralyzed on his left side. This paralysis had been caused by severe damage to the spinal cord as a result of the mistreatment by the Germans.
     [1]
Cammaert: Inspector Bots died shortly after his release. [2]
He is buried in the municipal cemetery Kapel in ’t Zand in Roermond, grave 20 54. [3]
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
