Katie Jans did messenger work for the LO. In Venlo, the local LO and OD groups worked well together, as in most places in North Limburg. She was a daughter of reserve Major General Jacobus Jans [1], commander of the OD in Limburg, and the sister of his successor Leo Jans. [1.2]
The latter, after his arrest, was taken out of his cell again by a group of resistance fighters from Venlo. In revenge for this, his sisters Trees and Katie were arrested. After several days of "interrogation" about the whereabouts of their brother and father, the girls were released. Katie died in the hospital of Venlo "as a result of wartime violence". [2]
Historie.Venlo.nl gives a brain haemorrhage as the immediate cause of death. [3]
In Venlo-Oost, Katie Jansstraat is named after her. [4]
