The fallen resistance people in Limburg
Willem Lenis was a tailor and one of the victims of the big raid of Wednesday 17 May 1944 in Helden, his last residence.
The mayor of Helden wrote about him to the OGS on October 29, 1952: The person in question worked here as a tailor’s employee. As a bystander during a roundup carried out by the Germans on May 17, 1943, he was also arrested and taken to Germany. [1#12]
Deceased in Schwarmstedt tussen Hannover en Bremen between Hanover and Bremen, 32 km southwest of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, perhaps in the reserve hospital there. [2][3]
He was originally buried in the Seelhorst municipal cemetery in Hanover. [1#7][4]
Reburied on December 15, 1954 at the Catholic cemetery Brachterbeek, Maasbracht. [1#8]
Maasbracht was his sister’s place of residence. [1#15]
She agreed to his remains being reburied once more, as otherwise the grave would be cleared. [1#25]
This reburial took place on July 8, 1993. [1#26]
