    John C. Reeves SN 36780426
Pfc 30th Infantry Division (Old Hickory), 119th Regiment, 1st Battalion, A Company

The following text and the photo are taken from the book Valkenburg 80 jaar bevrijd (Valkenburg 80 Years Liberated) [1]
John was born on October 2, 1916, probably in Springfield Illinois, and was married to Mildred Woods. He was killed in action near the Goudsberg in Valkenburg on September 17 at the age of 27. At this spot, the road from Walem to Koulen near the intersection with the little chapel of St. Mary, a sniper ended John’s life. He was laid down in a meadow beside the road until he was taken to Fosses-la-Ville, where he was buried on September 18. His wife Mildred Woods and his mother Jennie Reeves preferred to rebury him at home. On August 1, 1949, he found his final resting place at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.

John Reeves was one of the six soldiers of the Old Hickory Division who were killed in action during the liberation of Valkenburg and its surroundings.
