Gerard van Grootheest was the local leader of the Amersfoort chemical service [7] and a student of indology at the RU in Utrecht [4]. He distributed banned printed matter and supported illegal transmission of intelligence information to England, in collaboration with the group around Hans Zomer. [1]
As a result, he fell into the trap of the Englandspiel [2]. He was in the Oranjehotel in cell 461 from September 23, 1941 to March 30, 1942. [7]
Was sentenced to death during the OD trial in Maastricht and executed with his fellow convicts immediately upon arrival at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
