Loek Verstrijden was an assistant purchaser [1][4] and trade correspondent. Co-organizer of the knokploeg (battle group) around Theo Dobbep. This resistance group of the first hour, which also worked closely with the Ordedienst (OD), was known for its spectacular raids and attacks on dangerous traitors. Through infiltration by “V-mann” Anton van der Waals, the group was busted, [2] with Verstrijden being arrested in Amsterdam/Apollolaan on October 27, 1941. [3]
He was imprisoned in the Oranjehotel until about April 1, 1942. (Photo: Book of the Deads, Oranjehotel) [8]
He was sentenced to death in the first OD trial [4] in Maastricht. For this reason he is referred to by maastrichtsegevelstenen.nl as a resistance fighter with a connection to Maastricht. [5]
He and the other convicts were shot in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg near Berlin.
