Richard Schoemaker was a cadet at the Royal Military Academy from 1905 and active in various sports, especially fencing. In it he participated in the Olympic Games in London in 1908. He became a professor of architecture in Bandung and then in Delft.
Shortly after the beginning of the German occupation in 1940, Schoemaker formed a resistance group. The group spied and collected weapons. [1]
The Schoemaker group was not affiliated with the Ordedienst, but was in contact with the Mekel group. [2]
Mainly Delft students were involved in these two groups. [9]

He was murdered by the SS at the edge of the execution trench at Sachsenhausen concentration camp (Oranienburg, Germany). [4]
He is on the Erelijst van gevallenen 1940 - 1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament) [5.1.] and is bearer of the bravery award Verzetskruis (Resistance Cross) [5.2.]
