The fallen resistance people in Limburg
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
Two brothers Heesbeen from Brunssum were killed during the 2nd World War. Johan Anno Heesbeen or George was the older one. He was a member of the resistance and is therefore mentioned in the chapel on the Cauberg. What his resistance work consisted of we have not found out yet. He was a machine fitter at the state mine Hendrik. [1]
Between July 15, 1942 and July 28, 1942, he was imprisoned in Camp Amersfoort. [2]
The 6 years younger Aloys Heesbeen, born 6 September 1920 in Brunssum, was killed in action in Moresnet (B) on 17 October 1944 in the service of the American army. See also: [3]
See also Totenbuch KZ Sachsenhausen 1936 – 1945. [4]
In some sources he is called Johan Anna Heesbeen, but in the municipal archives in the Regionaal Historisch Centrum Limburg (RHCL) he is called Johan Anno. And they should know. [5]
