Pierre Caris was a car mechanic.
On April 16, 1943, he was forced to work in Germany by the regional labor office in Roermond. [1]
Later he ended up in concentration camp Dora. His prisoner number there was 28848. [2]
The Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp was put into operation on August 28, 1943. V1 and V2 bombs were to be manufactured there in a former mine. For this purpose, the prisoners had to widen the tunnels, among other things. They were locked up in the mine day and night. Many died after only a few weeks. Production started in January 1944. [3]
Dora was initially a subcamp of Buchenwald, still when Pierre died. That is why Buchenwald is sometimes given as his place of death. But that was the main camp. See, for example, the memorial plaque on the church of his home village Nunhem [4][6].
How did the forced laborer Pierre Caris end up in the concentration camp? He must have been rebellious in some way. Until we know more, he is listed here under Unorganized Resistance.
