- Aid to People in Hiding L.O. - Maasniel -

Het Grote Gebod – L.O.

Joseph Smeets and his wife Henriette Maria Hubertine Houtackers kept people hidden on their farm throughout the war. About 20 more men were in hiding in the woods near the farm. The Smeets family regularly supplied them with food. Weapons were discovered in a haystack, which the people in hiding had hidden there. For more details, see [1].
    That was on September 25, 1944. [2]
He was shot near the German border for prohibited possession of weapons, along with one of the hidden men, Paul J. Peeters. [3]
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
