Andreas Gerardus Willem Boijmans (André)

12-05-1886 Rotterdam      24-03-1945 AEL Hunswinkel, Kr. Altena (58)
- People in hiding - Forced Labor - Roermond -

The basket maker [1] André Boijmans was one of people in hiding, who were arrested in Roermond after Christmas 1943 and ended up in the Arbeitserziehungslager Hunswinkel, where a barrage was being built. More info above the list of Roermond’s fallen.
He was taken to Germany on January 6, according to a form in his file at the OGS (oorlogsgravenstichting, War Graves Foundation). It further reads: Died of exhaustion and malnutrition. The deceased were put in the earth near camp Hunswinkel in the same way as one buries cadavers. No graves were made! [2#2]
On page 12 in that file we read that he ended up in the camp for forging his identification card and for refusing, to make baskets for bombs, so-called bomb baskets. (was betrayed)
Was arrested on Jan. 6. 1945 and transported via Brüggen to Germany and ended up in camp Hunswinkel near Lüdenscheid, March 24, 1945.
     [2#12]
He is buried on the Dutch Field of Honor of the Düsseldorf-Oberbilk cemetery, grave C-2-21. [3]
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
