Oorlogsgravenstichting

Leo Hilkens was an agricultural worker. [1#2]
He brought messages from resistance groups to the Allies. When he fought with British and Belgian troops in the liberation of his hometown, he was caught and shot as an alleged spy.
The death certificate gives October 15, 1944 as his date of death. The Oorlogsgravenstichting (War Graves Foundation) and his funeral card, on the other hand, say October 16, 1944.
His grave is under the reconstructed church. [1#14]
There is a memorial stone at the spot where he was shot. [1#13]
    Short biography on WO2slachtoffers.nl. [2]
He is listed in the “Erelijst 1940-1945” (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [3]
