The fallen resistance people in Limburg

Hendrik Keesman

Machine fitter. On a sheet (picture 45) in ARCH00347.148, the CPN archive of their fallen comrades in Limburg, he is referred to as coming from Brunsum. On it, a photo of him is requested by the Memorial Book Department. [1]

At stamboom-keesman [2] we read:

• Resided in July 1930 at Marisstraat 11, Heerlen.
• In the Nieuwe Rotterdamse Courant of August 25, 1927, it is reported that he ran for the workers’ committee at the State Mine Hendrik on behalf of the (Communist) Federatieve Mijnwerkersbond. He was not elected because just 21 votes
• Candidate for the chamber election on April 26, 1933, the Limburger Koerier of March 15, 1933, names Hendrik Keesman as representative of the Communistische Partij Holland in the electoral district of Limburg. He is number 12 on the list of 19 candidates.

On the timeline of Hendrik Keesman at oorlogsbronnen.nl [4] we read:

• On September 12, 1941, Hendrik Keesman was arrested in Brunssum.
• On January 4, 1942, Hendrik Keesman was arrested. (Apparently for the second time. Especially with communists this often happened)
• Until July 2, 1942, Hendrik Keesman was imprisoned in Camp Amersfoort.
• Between July 3, 1942 and January 15, 1943, Hendrik Keesman was imprisoned in Neuengamme.

He is buried on the Dutch field of honor of the main cemetery of Hamburg-Ohlsdorf. [5]
