1940-1945. The resistance in the dutch province of Limburg

Hell on Wheels

Units of the Allied Forces.

The Second Armored Division is also known as Hell on Wheels. [1.1]

The division participated in the landings in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy before arriving in the Belgian and Dutch provinces of Limburg. After participating in the Gulf War, the division was dissolved in 1995.

Hell on Wheels did not consist only of tank units. Integrated into it during World War II was, among others, the 41st Infantry Regiment, whose motto was Straight and Stalwart.
The 41st Infantry Regiment constituted the organic infantry of the newly formed 2nd Armored Division. [1.2]

On Saturday evening, September 16, 1944, when the 119th Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division Old Hickory in Valkenburg has already advanced to the Geneindestraat-Reinaldstraat line, which is on the other bank of the Geul, the Second Armored Division (Second Tank Division) also joins on the left wing (west side). Supporting each other (see map), they have to liberate the rest of South Limburg north of the Geul.
Due to fuel rationing - the army units involved in the battle of Arnhem were given priority - they therefore arrived at the Geul front later than planned.

See the Memorial in Geleen commemorating the 2nd Armored Division Hell on Wheels. [2]
