Urmond is a Maas village west of Geleen.
The resistance in Geleen and the surrounding area was also better coordinated in 1943: The LO subdistrict of Geleen was established as part of the district of Sittard. The group in Urmond was under the leadership of Th.G. Heyen with the support of municipal official J. Willems. [1]
In 1982, the municipality of Urmond (Urmond, Berg aan de Maas and Nattenhoven) and the municipalities of Stein, Meers and Elsloo merged to form the present municipality of Stein. [2]
The memory of the occupation period is kept alive in the municipality of Stein by, among other things, stumbling stones in front of the houses of murdered Jews, resistance fighters and other war victims. [3]
