Cornelis Gijsbertus Peters (Kees)

 16-04-1915 Elst      02-03-1945 Mauthausen (29)
- Aid to People in Hiding L.O. - Ambtenaren - Limburg + - Elst -

Het Grote Gebod – L.O.

Kees Peters was a civil servant in the distributiekantoor (rationing office) of the municipality of Elst. He was one of the pioneers of LO-Elst, he set up with Hendrik Kammeraat, Gerrit Erdkamp, Hermanus B. A. Geerlings, Petrus P. van Hal and Wouter Hoogakker a support group for people in hiding, which consisted mainly of these and other municipal officials. He was arrested on december 17, 1943.[2]
On July 17, 1946, a small advertisement appeared in De Heerenveensche Koerier, the content of which was unfortunately typical of the time, asking for information about him: Arrested by the S.D , on January 27. 1944 transported to Vught, September 6, 1944 to Oranienburg-Sachsenhausen and Rathenau. Returned to Sachsenhausen infirmary at the beginning of February 1945. Please contact J.C. Peters [ogs]
After the war, the Dienst Identificatie en Berging (Identification and Recovery Service) searched for the remains of Dutch people who had died in German camps and therefore asked Peters’ widow for information about his teeth from the dentist who had treated him, [1#6] but unfortunately nothing was found. [1#7]
The above report suggests that he died in Sachsenhausen concentration camp. According to other sources, however, he died on 2.3.1945 in the Mauthausen camp. [3][1#1]
Read more about the end of this group in the story about Elst and about Geert Hoes.
Cornelis Gijsbertus ( Kees ) Peters is listed in the Erelijst 1940-1945 (Honor Roll of the Dutch Parliament). [4]
