The following text is taken from the book Valkenburg 80 jaar bevrijd (Valkenburg 80 Years Liberated) [2]
O.D. Hamby was born in 1912 in Shelby County Tennessee.
Killed in action on September 18, 1944 at 6 p.m. by mortar fire at Valkenburg. He died of major wounds to his neck and was buried at Fosses-la-Ville on September 20, 1944 and after closure of that cemetery he was reburied at Henri-Chapelle [3] Plot G Row 5 Grave 47.
SSgt Hamby was one of the 65 soldiers killed in battle during the liberation of the Limburg region of the Netherlands and Belgium. [1.1][1.2]
His name is commemorated on the 2nd Armored Division Memorial in Geleen, The Netherlands. [5]
