        De overval van Weert, ook bekend als het verraad van Weert vond plaats op 21 juni 1944. De districtsleiders van de LO Limburg hadden in het pensionaat Sint Louis in Weert een vergadering belegd, om een antwoord te vinden op de nieuwe Tweede Distributiestamkaart (T.D.) en de Z-kaarten. Voor deze bijeenkomst had men de zeer competente documentenvervalser Bob Jesse (schuilnaam: Vos) uitgenodigd, niet wetende, dat die intussen tegen de lamp was gelopen. Toen zijn ondervrager Wehner dreigde twee joodse kleuters, een jongetje en een meisje van ongeveer vier jaar, in het bijzijn van de moeder de armpjes en beentjes te breken en er zelfs aanstalten toe maakte, sloeg hij door en leidde de SiPo naar de vergadering. In totaal werden acht mannen door de SiPo opgepakt:

        Gedurende de maand juli en de eerste helft van augustus werden de gearresteerden in Vught onafgebroken ondervraagd door Nitsch die een machtiging had gekregen tot het afnemen van zogeheten verscherpte verhoren. Na twee weken kreeg hij assistentie van C. Schut, die zich als een duivelse sadist zonder remmingen ontpopte, wat zelfs Nitsch te ver ging. Herhaaldelijk moest hij zijn hulpkracht intomen. Vooral Knops en de kapelaans Naus en Berix werden door het tweetal zwaar toegetakeld. Door bluf en het tegen elkaar uitspelen van de arrestanten, waarbij hij handig gebruik maakte van al eerder verworven kennis en de tegengestelde verklaringen, kwam Nitsch veel aan de weet.
