Jacques Johannes Hubertus Kuypers/ Kuijpers (Jaco)

 25-08-1923 Roermond      25-01-1945 Roermond (21)
- People in hiding - Unorganized resistance - Roermond -

Jaco Kuijpers was an office worker.
Around January 25, 1945, Joseph Schalley from Linne and Jacques Kuypers from Roermond were arrested and shot, probably near Hattem Castle, the headquarters of the infamous paratrooper battalion of Major Matthaeas. [1][2]

In his file in the National Archives, G. Janssen of the Roermond municipal police wrote the following about him on March 29, 1954:
The person in question, who had evaded his duty to work for the Germans by going into hiding, was shot by the Germans in January 1945 while trying to escape through the front line from the occupied area to the liberated area near Roermond and died as a result in Roermond on January 25, 1945. He enjoyed a good reputation in every respect. [3]

According to the OGS, Jaco Kuijpers was a member of the resistance. Perhaps he is considered as such because he tried to get through the front line to the liberated part of the Netherlands. Dr. Loe de Jong did not count people in hiding as members of the resistance per se, because he found this too passive. Jaco’s attempt mentioned above is not passive, so we count him as part of the unorganized resistance.

Reburied on the National Field of Honor in Loenen, grave  A 1041 [2]
